Care and Cleaning

Please be aware that over the course of time, discoloration may occur with silver or gold plated jewellery. This is due to general wear and tear and the acidity of your skin. When you are not wearing your jewellery, it should be stored in a box, or wrapped in tissue paper to maintain its polished look and avoid tarnishing.

Silver, gold and rose gold plated jewellery

To care for your jewellery please avoid coming into contact with water, perfume, lotions, hairsprays and detergents as this may cause your jewellery to tarnish. Most of our jewellery is costume jewellery and is therefore not designed to be worn constantly. Please do not sleep or shower with your jewellery. To keep your jewellery looking its best, polish using a soft cloth or gently buff.

Sterling Silver (925) jewellery

Sterling Silver is a precious metal that will naturally tarnish over time. This darkening of the metal is not related to its quality, it is a natural reaction of the metal to the oxygen in the air that can be removed by cleaning your jewellery. To slow down the tarnishing, we recommend that your jewellery is stored in a container (ideally a lined box or soft pouch) and away from direct sunlight. To remove the tarnished layer we suggest that you polish your jewellery with a soft cloth periodically.

Gold and Rose Gold Plate (18K) jewellery

Gold plate may tarnish over time but the darkening of the metal is not related to its quality. It is a natural reaction of the metal to the oxygen in the air that can be removed by cleaning your jewellery. We recommend you to treat your jewellery with utmost care and attention. We advise you to remove your jewellery before going to bed, showering, doing housework or swimming and keep it in a jewellery box; avoid direct exposure to some chemicals (solvent, hair spray, perfumes) and high temperatures. We suggest that you polish your jewellery with a soft cloth periodically.

STAINLESS STEEL

Most of our items are now stainless steel with gold, silver or rose gold plating. Our stainless steel items are our highest quality and are tarnish free.

Please choose these items if you would like longer lasting, harder wearing, durable jewellery that will not lose their colour no matter what.

PLATED MIXED METALS

However, we also like to offer cheaper alternatives to make our jewellery available to all (gold/silver plated mixed metals) and these items need to be looked after carefully to sustain their plating.

These items need to be looked after following these guidelines:

Do not wear your plated jewellery in the shower, while bathing, working out or sleeping as this can strip off the gold or silver plating.

To help your jewellery last as long as possible:

  • Our plated items are costume jewellery, not solid gold or silver as reflected in our pricing.

  • Avoid exposing jewellery to water, chemicals, household products, and perfumes/lotions which can cause jewellery to discolour.

  • Put on your jewellery last when getting ready to avoid spraying perfume/deodorant or getting moisturiser/sprays on it.

  • Between wearing, we recommend that you keep your jewellery in the pouches we send them in to avoid them touching anything that could damage them.

  • With proper care, your jewels will retain their beauty and character.

LEATHER

Boho-girl Leather Goods are unique in appearance with their own individual characteristics. To keep your leather looking it’s very best, just follow these easy steps:

  • We recommend not using any leather spray on our products, as it may change the original look.

  • Use a mild soap and damp cloth to clean. Avoid leather conditioner, as wear and tear should be expected and will add character to these pieces.

  • If you choose to protect your leather, test a small amount on an inconspicuous area of the product first. Protectant may cause the leather to darken in color. Avoid all oil-based protectants.

  • Avoid exposure to intense weather conditions such as snow, rain, and direct sunlight and follow the same instruction as for other Jewelry pieces.

  • Store your leather in our Velvet dust bag (included with each Leather product).

We will not be able to replace or refund items that have been damaged by the customer, it is the customers responsibility to care for their jewellery following our guidelines.

For more information on how to care for specific items of jewellery please contact us.

In the interests of hygiene, earrings cannot be returned or refunded

Replacement or exchange can only be considered where jewellery has been treated with care, and has not been personalised.
